A study at getting better in creating illustrations by starting the rendering process with values scale. Inspired by myself always sleeping with my favorite character plushie.

This was a university study project about learning how to create better illustrations by starting from color values.
Planning: I first looked for references for the pose I had planned in mind, gathered separate references for the character (Luka Megurine) and the plushie (Miku Hatsune), for the bed, beddings, pillows, and blankets. Also, I studied how other artists rendered their works from values scale to a full colored illustration. Then, I grabbed myself a value scale of 10 from the Internet. Finally, I finalized the color palette to use after the value placement.

Illustrating: I did multiple sketches for the pose before I finalized on one, then did the outline and values blocking, and finally, rendered it with colors by using layer modes. Added some final details and adjustments after.
